This year Chemex is celebrating its 20th Birthday as an Environmental Testing and Ecotoxicology Laboratory.

Chemex Environmental International Ltd, was formed in 1987 as a subsidiary of Chemex International PLC. The laboratory was initially designed to meet the specifications of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) Contract Laboratory Program (CLP).

In August 2005 control of the company was passed to the Whitfield Group with ownership of a minority shareholding being taken by Chemex Management. Chemex has relocated from Bar Hill to new state-of-the-art premises in Cottenham, Cambridgeshire. It has, maintained the majority of its key personnel in the move and quickly settled into its new home, continuing its services as normal a few short weeks after arrival.

Over the last 20 years, the company focused on developing a core base of clients by providing quality, responsive environmental testing and ecotoxicology services. Much of the company’s success in this area can be attributed to Chemex management philosophy, which relies on team-work, internal development and maintaining dedicated employees. From the beginning, the company has had a very low employee turnover rate, which contributed to the development of long-term, mutually beneficial customer relationships so critical to growth in a highly competitive and ever-changing industry.

By 2006, the ingenuity, hard work and innovation of dedicated staff and Chemex management had paid off and a business had been established which is recognised for its quality and responsive services throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. Today, with a new state-of-the-art laboratory, the company continues to grow, nurturing a diverse range of clients. Since its founding, Chemex Environmental International has developed a strong presence, providing input on and participating in numerous environmental committees and groups working aimed at improving the world wide quality of environmental testing.
