Ionic Balance

Ionic Balance

Scope of Application:
The Ionic Balance Method is essentially a calculation carried out using the results of 10 individual analyses.  The methods for these analyses therefore form part of the Ionic Balance Method.  The parameters analysed for are:

Alkalinity    Nitrate
Sulphate    Nitrite
Sodium      Potassium
Calcium     Magnesium
pH             Conductivity
Chloride
Others

The method is applicable to water and effluent matrices.

Technique:
Titrimetry, Ion Chromatography, Conductivity probe, ICP-MS

Reference method:
SCA method, The Examination of Waters and Associated MaterialsUSEPA Method 9056, 6020

Limit of Detection:

El. Conductivity- 5.0uS/cm
Alkalinity as CaCO3- 3mg/L
Chloride- 0.1mg/L
Sulphate- 0.05mg/L
Nitrate- 0.02mg/L
Nitrite- 0.02mg/L
Sodium- 0.2mg/L
Potassium- 0.2mg/L
Calcium- 0.2mg/L
Magnesium- 0.2mg/L

Sample required:
Waters : 500ml

Container:
Poly

Notes:
1. MDLs may be affected by sample matrix interferences, dilutions
2. The list of determinands may vary: call to confirm.
